US sets new cost record for major disasters

Hurricanes and wildfires drove record breaking costs in weather and climate change-related disasters in the United States in 2017. A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Center for Environmental Information released this week reported 16 disasters that cost more than $1 billion each, totaling $306 billion. The total cost was a new high for both the United States and worldwide for one country for one year. Read more.
