A recent op-ed asks the question ‘Is cross-laminated timber safe?”. Written by Paul Hargest, president of the Canadian Concrete Masonry Products Association, this piece points out recent issues with cross-laminated timber (CLT) used on projects, as well as ongoing questions with this new material and concerns over lack of research. “Clearly, CLT remains controversial. Concerns related to building strength, fire resistance, and health and safety continue to chip away at CLT, with organizations such as the IAFC (International Association of Fire Chiefs) publicly opposing its widespread use.”, states the op-ed.
