NCMA Solutions Center: How does compartmentation work in the event of a building fire?

NCMA eNews
November 21, 2018

Compartmentation contains fire until it can be brought under control, minimizing damage to adjacent structures & preventing spread of the fire that further threatens life safety. It also minimizes the spread of toxic fumes & smoke. Fire rated walls, floors and ceilings are used to create safe spaces or passage to safety for building occupants during a blaze. Fore more information in compartmentation and designing fire-safe structures see TEK 7-2 Balanced Design Fire Protection.
