The Masonry Institute of Michigan has hired Phil Ledent, P.E., S.E., as its new Executive Director.
We are excited to have Phil Ledent joining the MIM staff. Along with a passion for masonry, Ledent's past experience on the national masonry code committee will assist him in serving the design and construction communities in Michigan. His leadership of the Structural Engineering department at a previous employer will assist him in leading the MIM staff in the years to come. Phil’s engineering background will aid him in answering technical inquiries. His familiarity with masonry construction will allow him to step right in the position without missing a beat.

Philippe Ledent joined the Masonry Institute of Michigan as the next Executive Director and Structural Engineer on February 3, 2020. The previous Executive Director, Dan Zechmeister, will be retiring at the end of 2020.
Ledent, in his capacity with MIM will be the principal officer of the Institute and responsible for all of the Institute affairs in support of the mission statement: MIM is dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the masonry industry. The Executive Director supervises and controls all of the Institute’s business and performs all duties incident to the office of Executive Director, including being the Institute’s structural engineer, and duties as may be periodically prescribed by the President of the Board of Trustees.
Prior to joining MIM, Phil worked at Fishbeck in Grand Rapids as a Senior Structural Engineer from June through January, 2019. Previously, he worked at Bergmann in Lansing for nearly five years, beginning as a Structural Design Engineer I and advancing to the Discipline Leader of their Structural Engineering department. In this role, he led the structural engineering team in the Midwest region, and coordinated with other engineering and architectural disciplines on projects as the structural engineer in responsible charge.
He has both Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering degrees from Lawrence Technological University. Phil is registered in seven states as Professional Engineer (P.E.), including Michigan. He is also a registered in two states as a Structural Engineer (S.E.), including Illinois. Phil serves on The Masonry Society TMS 402/602 Masonry Code and Specification as a voting member on the Design and Structural Elements Subcommittees. Additionally, he began serving as the chairman of the TMS BIM Subcommittee in June, 2019. Prior to joining MIM he was one of two structural engineering consultants serving on the Michigan Masonry Coalition (MMC). The MMC is dedicated to assist structural engineers, architects, construction managers and owners on the value of a structural masonry system for their projects.
Phil and his wife, Emily, live in Lansing with their two-year-old golden retriever (Patton) and cat (Cookie). Phil and Emily enjoy traveling, recently visiting Belgium to attend his uncle’s wedding and Boston. Phil is an avid homebrewer and has been making beer, wine, and hard cider for over ten years; and they always have homebrew on tap in their home.
