ORLANDO, FL – Retired president of Rinker Materials Karl H. Watson, Sr., who helped grow the West Palm Beach-based company that helped build Disney World and Cape Canaveral to be the largest producer of concrete block and ready-mix in the country -- was presented with NCMA’s Hall of Fame award February 14 at the association’s Annual Convention held at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area hotel.

“A giant in our industry," said Troy Maschmeyer, Maschmeyer Concrete. "A well-deserved recognition.”

NCMA's Hall of Fame award is presented to the industry’s most valued participants, ones whose careers are highlighted by continual accomplishments on the industry’s behalf and who have demonstrated unquestioned dedication to NCMA’s highest values.

Watson, who has over 40 years of service, was one of the pioneers in establishing the size and scale the building material and ready-mix concrete is mass-produced today. During his tenure in Florida, concrete block became the primary building material and he was largely responsible for the introduction of new block plants across the state.

Watson was a strong advocate for roles that associations could play in creating and advancing markets. He was an ardent supporter of his employees participating at NCMA and serving in leadership roles.

Watson was also the recipient of the William B. Hicklin Lifetime Achievement Award from FC&PA, 2006; the Construction Hall of Fame from the University of Florida, 2014; Board of Directors Member, Flagler Bank Corp; and Board of Trustees Member, Palm Beach Atlantic University.
